Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 Léoville Las Cases is deeply colored, almost opaque, with a vivid purple rim that hints at its youth and concentration. The nose is beautifully pure and focused, led by blackcurrant (cassis) and blackberry, wrapped in notes of violets, graphite, warm embers and a discreet cigar box complexity; the new oak is already seamlessly integrated, sitting in the background rather than on top of the fruit. On the palate, this is full-bodied, dense and layered, yet incredibly precise. Ripe dark fruits are framed by fine, firm tannins and a vibrant, almost architectural structure. Flavors of cassis, black cherry and plum are intertwined with hints of pencil lead, tobacco leaf, crushed rocks and subtle spice. The finish is long, palate-coating and resonant, lingering with dark fruit, mineral tension and refined oak. Built for the long haul, this 2022 has excellent aging potential and will reward patient cellaring over several decades, gradually gaining even more complexity and nuance.

Production
Léoville Las Cases comes from some of the finest gravelly terroirs of Saint-Julien, bordering the famous vineyards of Pauillac and overlooking the Gironde estuary. These deep gravel soils over clay and sand provide superb drainage and help produce Cabernet Sauvignon of great intensity and finesse, supported by Merlot and Cabernet Franc in the blend. The estate practices very selective harvesting, picking parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness, with rigorous sorting of the grapes before vinification. Fermentation typically takes place in temperature-controlled vats, followed by a long, gentle maceration to extract color, tannin and aroma with precision rather than excess. The wine is then aged in high-quality French oak barrels, a significant proportion new, where it harmonizes, gains complexity and refines its powerful structure before bottling.

Food & Serving
This 2022 Léoville Las Cases is a superb partner for refined, richly flavored dishes such as roast lamb with herbs, dry-aged ribeye or côte de boeuf, venison or other game, and classic dishes like beef Wellington or tournedos Rossini. It also works beautifully with truffle dishes, mushroom-based sauces and mature hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda. For optimal enjoyment, serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F). In its youth, decanting for 2–3 hours is strongly recommended to allow the wine to open and soften its structure; as it matures, a shorter decant to remove sediment and gently aerate will be sufficient.
