Description
Château Léoville Barton 2010 is a classic Saint-Julien from one of Bordeaux’s most respected Second Growth estates. Built on Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant fruit and the estate’s trademark elegance, it combines power, structure, and remarkable precision in a vintage widely regarded as outstanding for the Left Bank.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep garnet core with only the first signs of maturity at the rim. The nose is refined and layered, offering blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, tobacco, and subtle floral and earthy notes, with the 2010 vintage bringing impressive concentration and freshness.
On the palate it is full-bodied yet composed, with firm but polished tannins, vivid acidity, and a long, mineral-tinged finish. The wine has the structure to age gracefully for many more years, and while it is already approachable with proper decanting, it should continue to gain complexity over time.
Production
Léoville Barton is located in Saint-Julien on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, where deep gravel soils over clay and limestone provide excellent drainage and ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate is known for careful vineyard management and meticulous selection, with harvesting typically carried out parcel by parcel to ensure optimal ripeness. Vinification follows a traditional Bordeaux approach, with fermentation in temperature-controlled vats and aging in French oak barrels to preserve purity, structure, and the estate’s signature balance.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef Wellington, entrecôte, game birds, and dishes with truffle or wild mushroom accents. Serve at 16–18°C and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking now; older bottles may need a gentler, shorter decant to preserve delicate aromatics.
Producer
Château Léoville Barton is one of the historic estates of Saint-Julien and has been in the Barton family since 1826, giving it a rare continuity in Bordeaux. Classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, it has long been admired for producing wines of classic style, longevity, and consistency. Today it remains one of the benchmark names of the Médoc, with a strong reputation among collectors and Bordeaux enthusiasts alike.
