Description

Leonardo da Vinci Vitruviano Brunello di Montalcino 2019 captures the deep, time‑honoured bond between the Tuscan landscape and the people who work it. Crafted from 100% Sangiovese, this Brunello is celebrated as a natural, authentic expression of Montalcino’s terroir and the local culture of quality. The Vitruviano label pays homage to Leonardo’s vision of harmony and proportion, reflected here in a wine that balances power, elegance and precision.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 Vitruviano Brunello di Montalcino shows a vibrant, deep garnet core with brick‑tinged edges that hint at its structure and aging potential. The nose opens with classic Brunello notes: ripe red cherries, wild strawberries and dried rose petals, layered with hints of tobacco leaf, leather, sweet spices and a touch of Tuscan herbs and underbrush. On the palate, this is a poised and finely structured Brunello, offering juicy red and black cherry fruit wrapped in firm yet polished tannins. Flavours of plum, blood orange, dried fig and balsamic nuances unfold alongside notes of cedar, cloves and a subtle earthy minerality. The acidity is bright and linear, giving the wine lift and tension, while the finish is long and savory with lingering spice and dried floral tones. The 2019 vintage is approachable in its youth with a short decant, but has the concentration and backbone to age gracefully for 10–15 years or more in a good cellar.

Production
Grown on the sun‑drenched hillsides of Montalcino in southern Tuscany, the Sangiovese vines for Vitruviano Brunello benefit from a mix of clay and limestone soils, excellent drainage and significant diurnal temperature shifts that help develop aromatics and preserve acidity. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure careful selection of only the healthiest, ripest bunches, reflecting the region’s artisanal approach and the producer’s quality focus. After gentle crushing and fermentation in temperature‑controlled tanks, the wine undergoes a long maceration on the skins to extract colour, tannin and complexity. It is then matured in wood—traditionally large Slavonian oak casks and/or carefully selected barrels—for several years, followed by additional bottle aging to meet Brunello di Montalcino DOCG requirements and achieve its hallmark depth and refinement.

Food & Serving
This Brunello is superb with rich, savoury Tuscan cuisine: think bistecca alla fiorentina, slow‑braised beef or lamb, game dishes, or hearty stews with porcini mushrooms. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or pecorino Toscano and truffle‑inflected dishes like risotto or tagliatelle al tartufo. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) in large red wine glasses to allow the aromas to fully develop. Decant for 1–2 hours before serving, especially in its youth, to soften the tannins and bring out the wine’s layered complexity.
