Description
Leonardo da Vinci 1502 Sauvignon Rubicone Uve portate a Cesena 2023 is a vibrant Italian white that captures the freshness of the Adriatic-influenced hills of Emilia-Romagna. Crafted from 100% Sauvignon Blanc, it offers a modern, aromatic expression with a distinctly Italian character. Named for the year 1502, it pays homage to Leonardo’s historic journey through Romagna, celebrating the fusion of art, territory and taste in every glass.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Sauvignon Blanc shows a bright, pale straw-yellow color with subtle green reflections, hinting at its youthful energy and freshness. The nose is immediately expressive and inviting, with aromas of citrus zest, pink grapefruit and lime leaf layered over notes of green apple, white peach and freshly cut herbs. Delicate floral hints of elderflower and acacia, together with a touch of wet stone, add complexity and lift.
On the palate, it is crisp, clean and medium-bodied, driven by lively acidity that keeps the wine taut and refreshing from start to finish. Flavors of lemon, grapefruit and gooseberry are joined by nuances of passion fruit and green melon, while a subtle savory, almost saline note reflects its Romagna terroir. The finish is dry, precise and pleasantly persistent, leaving a trail of citrus and herbal freshness. Best enjoyed in its first 2–4 years to appreciate its aromatic intensity and vivacity, though it will hold well for a few more years under proper cellaring.
Production
The grapes for Leonardo da Vinci 1502 Sauvignon Rubicone Uve portate a Cesena 2023 are sourced from carefully selected vineyard sites in the Rubicone IGT area of Emilia-Romagna, with vines enjoying a mix of clay and calcareous soils and the moderating influence of Adriatic breezes. The terroir combines warm, sunny days with cool nights, helping to preserve acidity and build aromatic complexity in the Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Harvest typically takes place in the cool hours of early morning to protect freshness and aromas. The grapes are gently pressed, and the must is clarified at low temperature before undergoing a cool, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel to capture pure fruit expression. The wine is then kept on fine lees for a short period to enhance texture and aromatic depth, before bottling to preserve its crisp, youthful profile.
Food & Serving
This Sauvignon Blanc is an excellent match for seafood and fresh, Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Try it with grilled prawns, marinated octopus, seared scallops, or simply prepared white fish with lemon and herbs. It also pairs beautifully with goat cheese, asparagus risotto, vegetable tempura, sushi, and light pasta dishes with clams or seasonal vegetables. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C. Decanting is not necessary, but opening the bottle a few minutes before serving allows the aromatic profile to fully express itself.
