Description

Lecheneaut Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2023 is a classically styled red Burgundy that offers a real taste of the Côte de Nuits at a more approachable level. Crafted entirely from Pinot Noir, it delivers purity of fruit, fine structure, and the elegant, savory complexity that Burgundy lovers seek. This cuvée acts as a gateway into the finesse of Domaine Lecheneaut’s village and premier cru wines, drawing on the family’s deep roots in Nuits-Saint-Georges.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 shows a bright ruby color with youthful purple highlights at the rim, signaling its freshness and energy. The nose opens with vibrant red cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry, layered with hints of rose petals, crushed violets, and subtle spice. With a little air, more earthy nuances emerge—dried herbs, underbrush, and a delicate touch of forest floor that is so typical of fine Burgundy. On the palate, this is supple and medium-bodied, with juicy red fruit at the core and a fine, chalky tannic frame. Lively acidity keeps everything precise and refreshing, giving the wine a mouthwatering, moreish finish. Notes of red currant, cranberry, and pomegranate mingle with gentle oak tones—think a whisper of vanilla, clove, and a faint smokiness—without ever overshadowing the Pinot fruit. While delicious in its youth for its vibrancy and crunch, this 2023 Bourgogne Pinot Noir should evolve gracefully over the next 3–6 years, gaining a bit more silk and savory complexity.

Production
Domaine Lecheneaut sources the fruit for this Bourgogne Pinot Noir from carefully selected parcels in and around Nuits-Saint-Georges and neighboring communes in the northern part of Burgundy’s Côte d’Or. The terroir is defined by limestone-rich clay soils and well-drained, gently sloping vineyards, which help deliver both ripeness and elegance in the Pinot Noir. Grapes are picked by hand at optimal maturity to preserve freshness and balance, with strict sorting in the vineyard and at the winery to keep only the healthiest bunches. In the cellar, fermentation typically takes place in temperature-controlled tanks, with a combination of whole berries and, depending on the vintage, a portion of whole clusters to add aromatic lift and structure. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels—mostly used barriques with a modest proportion of new oak—to refine the tannins and add subtle complexity while allowing the fruit and terroir to take center stage before bottling.

Food & Serving
Lecheneaut Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2023 is a versatile food partner, shining alongside dishes that match its finesse rather than overpower it. Think roast chicken with herbs, duck breast, pork tenderloin, charcuterie, or simple grilled lamb chops. It is also excellent with mushroom dishes, earthy vegetable tarts, and soft to semi-soft cheeses such as Brie, Reblochon, or a mild Tomme. Serve at 14–16°C (57–61°F) to highlight the wine’s aromatics and freshness. A brief 20–30 minutes in a carafe can help the youthful fruit and floral notes open up, but extended decanting is not necessary.

Producer
Domaine Lecheneaut is a respected family estate based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. Founded in the mid-20th century and developed significantly by brothers Philippe and Vincent Lecheneaut, the domaine has built a reputation for precise, terroir-driven Pinot Noir from a mosaic of plots across appellations such as Nuits-Saint-Georges, Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, and Gevrey-Chambertin. Their philosophy centers on meticulous vineyard work, naturally limited yields, and thoughtful, non-interventionist winemaking that lets each site speak clearly. Over the years, Lecheneaut’s wines have earned strong recognition from Burgundy enthusiasts and critics alike for their combination of depth, purity, and age-worthy structure, with this Bourgogne Pinot Noir offering a finely tuned introduction to the estate’s style.
