Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2021 is the second wine of the iconic Ornellaia estate, crafted from younger vines and the finest lots selected from each vintage. A Tuscan red with unmistakable Bordeaux influence, it offers a polished glimpse of one of Bolgheri’s most celebrated names, shaped by the precision and ambition of the Antinori family.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, inviting ruby-purple color. The nose is expressive and refined, with sweet dark berries, cassis, cedar, and a subtle leather note that adds complexity. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet beautifully balanced, with soft tannins, fresh polished fruit, restrained mineral tones, and an elegant, lingering finish. The 2021 vintage is already highly enjoyable, but it also has the structure and harmony to develop gracefully over the coming years. Its combination of freshness, density, and finesse suggests good aging potential for those who prefer a more integrated, mature profile.

Production
Le Serre Nuove is produced in Bolgheri, Tuscany, from a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, with the exact proportions varying by vintage depending on which parcels and lots perform best. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted, then gently crushed before undergoing a long maceration on the skins to build depth and character. The wine is matured in barriques, with around 25% new oak, followed by additional time in barrel and bottle before release, ensuring refinement and complexity.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, lamb, venison, and rich Tuscan-style dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina or pasta with wild boar ragù. It also works well with aged hard cheeses and earthy mushroom-based recipes. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for about an hour if drinking young to let the aromas open fully.

Ornellaia was founded in the 1980s by Ludovico Antinori in Bolgheri, on one of Tuscany’s most highly regarded wine sites, close to Sassicaia. Built on the vision of producing world-class Bordeaux-style wines in Italy, the estate quickly earned international acclaim, with guidance from celebrated names such as André Tchelistcheff and later Michel Rolland. Today, Ornellaia is known as one of Italy’s benchmark producers, combining meticulous vineyard work, advanced cellar techniques, and a reputation for excellence across its range.
