Description
Le Mortelle Maremma Toscana Vivia 2024 is a vibrant coastal white from Antinori’s Le Mortelle estate in southern Tuscany. Crafted from a Mediterranean blend of primarily Vermentino with Viognier and Ansonica, it captures the fresh, sun-drenched character of the Maremma coastline in an elegant, contemporary style. Combining Antinori’s centuries of winemaking expertise with a focus on terroir-driven expression, Vivia has quickly become a reference point for modern Tuscan white wine.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Vivia 2024 shows a luminous straw-yellow color with delicate green reflections, suggesting freshness and youthful energy. The nose is immediately inviting: citrus blossom and lime zest meet ripe peach, white melon, and hints of tropical fruit, layered with Mediterranean herbs, sea breeze salinity, and a gentle floral lift from the Viognier.
On the palate, this is crisp yet supple, with Vermentino delivering bright acidity and salinity, while Viognier and Ansonica contribute texture and a rounded, almost creamy mid-palate. Expect flavors of lemon and grapefruit, crunchy green apple, juicy stone fruits, and a subtle almond note on the finish. The aftertaste is clean, mineral, and persistent, making it a highly drinkable yet refined white. Best enjoyed young for its vivid aromatics and freshness, it will show well over the next 2–3 years.
Production
Le Mortelle lies in the Maremma, close to the Tyrrhenian Sea, where sandy and loamy soils, good drainage, and constant sea breezes help produce grapes with excellent aromatic intensity and freshness. Harvesting is typically done in the cooler hours of the day, often by hand, to preserve delicate aromatics and ensure careful selection of bunches at optimal ripeness. The varieties are vinified separately: after gentle pressing, the must is cold-settled and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to maintain purity of fruit and aromatic precision. The wine then rests on fine lees for a short period, with occasional stirring, to enhance texture and complexity without sacrificing its crisp, maritime character.
Food & Serving
Vivia 2024 is a natural match for seafood and coastal Mediterranean cuisine: think crudo, oysters, grilled prawns, seared scallops, or mussels in white wine and herbs. It also pairs beautifully with marinated octopus, fritto misto, summer salads with citrus or fennel, simple grilled fish, soft fresh cheeses, and vegetable dishes featuring zucchini, artichokes, or tomatoes. Serve well-chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatics. Decanting is not necessary; simply open and pour, allowing the wine a few minutes in the glass to open up.
Producer
Le Mortelle is a coastal Tuscan estate owned by the historic Antinori family, whose winemaking legacy in Italy stretches back over six centuries. Located near Castiglione della Pescaia in Maremma, Le Mortelle was acquired and developed by Antinori to showcase the potential of this once-rugged, now highly regarded winegrowing area. The estate has quickly gained recognition for its precise, terroir-driven whites and expressive reds, combining modern viticulture with deep regional know-how. As part of the broader Antinori portfolio—one of the most influential names in Italian wine—Le Mortelle plays an important role in defining the contemporary identity of coastal Tuscany.
