Description
Le Marchesine Franciacorta Secolo Novo Dosaggio Zero Riserva 2015 is a pure Chardonnay sparkling wine from one of the most prized hillsides in Franciacorta, Santissima di Cussago in Brescia. Crafted as a Zero Dosage (Brut Nature), it offers an unadorned, precise expression of its terroir with no added sugar, appealing to those who appreciate tension, minerality and finesse. Aged for five years on the lees, this Riserva stands among the most refined Franciacorta wines of its style, marrying depth and elegance with remarkable clarity.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Secolo Novo Dosaggio Zero Riserva 2015 typically shows a luminous straw-yellow hue with fine, persistent bubbles forming a delicate, continuous perlage. The nose is precise and layered: expect notes of citrus zest, green apple and Williams pear, gradually revealing hints of brioche, toasted hazelnut, white flowers, chalk and a subtle saline edge from extended lees aging.
On the palate, the wine is dry, taut and beautifully structured, with a linear, vibrant acidity that carries flavors of lemon curd, crisp orchard fruit, almond, and a touch of pastry cream from its long maturation on the lees. The Zero Dosage style underscores the mineral backbone and saline freshness, giving a long, clean and vertical finish. Thanks to its concentration, acidity and time on the lees, this 2015 Riserva has very good aging potential; while already harmonious and expressive, it should continue to evolve in bottle over the next 5–8 years, gaining even more complexity and nuance.
Production
The Chardonnay grapes for Secolo Novo are sourced exclusively from the Santissima di Cussago hillside, one of Franciacorta’s most historic and esteemed crus, characterized by morainic soils rich in minerals that contribute tension and finesse to the wine. The fruit is carefully hand-harvested to ensure optimal ripeness and selection of only the healthiest bunches. After a gentle pressing, the base wine is fermented—often partly in stainless steel and sometimes with a portion in oak, depending on the vintage—before undergoing secondary fermentation in the bottle according to the traditional method. The wine then rests sur lie for around five years, allowing the lees to impart complexity, texture and autolytic notes, before disgorgement without dosage, preserving the purest expression of its origin.
Food & Serving
This Franciacorta is a superb match for refined seafood dishes such as oysters, scallop carpaccio, caviar, sashimi and delicate white fish, as well as elegant vegetable tempura, fresh goat’s cheese, and lightly truffled dishes or poultry terrines. Its structure and dryness also make it an excellent partner for fine charcuterie or aged hard cheeses. Serve well-chilled, ideally at 8–10°C (46–50°F), to highlight its precision and freshness. A brief decanting is generally not necessary, but pouring the first glass and letting the bottle open up in the ice bucket over 10–15 minutes will allow its aromas and complexity to fully unfold.
