Description
Le Marchesine Franciacorta Audens Dosaggio Zero is a finely sculpted, bone-dry sparkling wine that showcases the purity and precision of one of Italy’s top metodo classico regions. Crafted without any dosage (added sugar), it offers a laser-focused expression of Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Nero grown on the limestone-rich hills of Franciacorta. This cuvée is designed for those who appreciate structure, minerality and tension over sweetness, echoing the stylistic shift towards ultra‑dry, terroir-driven sparkling wines.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Audens Dosaggio Zero typically shows a pale straw to light golden hue, animated by a fine, persistent bead and an elegant mousse. The nose is taut and refined, opening with citrus peel, green apple and crisp pear, layered with white flowers, fresh almonds, brioche crumbs and a distinct chalky, saline edge.
On the palate, it is incisive, dry and beautifully balanced, with no residual sugar to soften the structure—just pure, linear fruit and minerality. Flavors of lemon zest, grapefruit, crunchy orchard fruit and a hint of white peach are wrapped around a core of wet stone and subtle toast from extended lees aging. The texture is creamy yet brisk, with vibrant acidity and a long, sapid finish marked by notes of hazelnut and sea spray. While it drinks brilliantly now for those who enjoy tension and freshness, this Franciacorta Dosaggio Zero has the structure to evolve for several more years in bottle, gaining complexity, nutty nuances and a broader, more savory profile.
Production
Le Marchesine sources the grapes for Audens Dosaggio Zero from carefully selected vineyard parcels in the heart of Franciacorta in Lombardy, where morainic soils rich in limestone, gravel and glacial deposits lend the wine its signature mineral backbone. The region’s moderating breezes from Lake Iseo and the diurnal temperature swings help preserve acidity and aromatic finesse in Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Nero. Grapes are generally harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to maintain both freshness and phenolic balance, with strict selection in the vineyard and at the winery. After gentle pressing, the base wines are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks (and occasionally a portion in oak, depending on the vintage style) to preserve purity of fruit. The traditional method second fermentation takes place in bottle, followed by an extended period of maturation on the lees, which builds texture, complexity and the fine, persistent mousse. True to the Dosaggio Zero style, no dosage is added at disgorgement, allowing the terroir and the natural structure of the wine to shine without any added sweetness.
Food & Serving
This Franciacorta is a superb choice for those who enjoy versatile, gastronomic sparkling wines. Its crisp acidity and bone-dry profile make it ideal with oysters, crudo, sushi and sashimi, as well as tartares of fish or shellfish. It also pairs beautifully with delicate tempura, seafood risotto, lemon-scented pasta dishes, goat’s cheese, fresh burrata, and lightly seasoned poultry or veal. For a more regional match, try it with lake fish, fried seafood or simple antipasti based on vegetables and cured meats. Serve well chilled, ideally around 6–8°C (43–46°F) to emphasize its precision and freshness. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass or a quick splash into a chilled decanter can help the aromas unfurl, but extended decanting is not necessary—this wine is at its best when its energy and tension are kept intact.
Producer
Le Marchesine is a respected, family-run estate in Franciacorta, a region widely considered Italy’s answer to Champagne for traditional‑method sparkling wines. The family has been involved in viticulture for generations, but it was in the late 20th century that Le Marchesine began to attract serious attention for its meticulous vineyard work and quality‑focused approach in the cellar. Situated among the gently rolling hills of Lombardy’s Brescia province, the estate has embraced low yields, careful site selection and modern technology alongside traditional methods to produce refined, terroir‑driven Franciacorta. Le Marchesine is known in the region for its precise, gastronomic cuvées—including several low‑ or no‑dosage bottlings like Audens—that highlight the natural freshness and structure of Franciacorta, contributing to the area’s reputation as one of Europe’s premier sparkling wine appellations.
