Le Macchiole Scrio 2022

Le Macchiole Scrio 2022 is a striking Tuscan Syrah from Bolgheri, offering depth, precision, and the kind of intensity that has made this estate one of Italy’s most admired modern producers. Crafted from 100% Syrah, it combines Mediterranean richness with a refined, cool herbal edge, making it a distinctive expression of the grape and of Bolgheri’s remarkable terroir.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, intense ruby color that immediately signals concentration and energy. The nose is layered and expressive, with dark fruit at the core and lifted notes of mint, eucalyptus, and balsamic herbs that add freshness and complexity. On the palate, the wine is round and full-flavored, with acidity woven seamlessly into the structure and tannins that feel sweet and polished rather than firm. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a savory balsamic impression that suggests excellent aging potential over the next several years.

Production
Scrio 2022 comes from middle-textured clay soils with alluvial gravel layers and limestone fragments, a combination that helps balance power with finesse. The vines are trained in a double-spur cordon and Guyot system, with grapes harvested in the second and third weeks of September. Fermentation and maceration last around 20 days, followed by 14 to 16 months of aging in 225-liter barriques, giving the wine depth, texture, and integration.

Food & Serving
This Syrah pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, grilled beef, game birds, and richly seasoned Mediterranean dishes, as well as mushroom-based recipes and aged hard cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and decanting for about 1–2 hours is recommended to let the aromatics and structure fully open.
