Description

Bottled in an impressive 6L Imperial, Latour 2015 is a commanding yet surprisingly approachable expression of one of Bordeaux’s most revered estates. This is grand vin in a grand format: richly fruited, impeccably polished and already seductive, yet built with the structure to age gracefully. The Imperial adds an extra dimension of longevity and ceremonial grandeur, making this a centrepiece bottle for serious collectors and memorable occasions.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Latour 2015 shows a deep, opaque garnet core with a vibrant purple rim that hints at its youth and density. The nose is intense and layered, opening with ripe blackcurrant and blackberry, followed by black cherry, cassis liqueur, and crème de cassis. With air, more complex nuances emerge: freshly sharpened pencil shavings, graphite, espresso, cocoa nibs, warm clay and a delicate potpourri of dried flowers and subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with a velvety, seamless attack that glides into a sweet-fruited, beautifully layered mid-palate. Dark berries, cassis and plum are framed by fine-grained, ripe tannins and a precise line of fresh acidity, giving both richness and lift. Notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, cedar and earth weave through to a long, juicy and complete finish. While the more classical 2014 may outlast it in absolute longevity, the 2015 is generous and accessible in its youth, especially in this early-drinking phase. In imperial format, however, you can confidently cellar it for 25–40 years, expecting increased complexity and refinement over the decades.

Production
Château Latour sits on the southern edge of Pauillac in Bordeaux’s Médoc, with its grand vin drawn largely from the famed Enclos—an exceptional, gravel-rich vineyard lying over clay subsoils that provide both superb drainage and deep root penetration. This terroir is ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon, which dominates the blend, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a touch of Petit Verdot. Harvest is carried out by hand, parcel by parcel, with strict selection in both vineyard and cellar. Fermentation typically takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with each plot vinified separately to preserve its character. The grand vin is then aged in a high proportion of new French oak barriques, where it matures on fine lees, gaining aromatic complexity, polish and structure before final blending and extended élevage. The 6L Imperial is filled with the same meticulous care as standard bottles, benefitting from slower evolution due to the larger format.

Food & Serving
Latour 2015 in Imperial is made for the table and for occasions where great cuisine meets great wine. It is a natural partner for classic dishes such as roast lamb with rosemary, dry-aged ribeye or côte de boeuf, venison or other game birds with truffle jus, and rich dishes featuring mushrooms, foie gras or slow-braised beef. Hard, aged cheeses like Comté, aged Gouda or mature English cheddar also suit its structure and depth. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F). For a young vintage like 2015, decanting is strongly recommended—2 to 4 hours in a large, wide-bottom decanter will help the wine unfurl its aromatics and soften the tannins, particularly important in such a large format where the wine evolves more slowly.

Producer
Château Latour is one of Bordeaux’s legendary First Growths, with a documented history dating back to at least the early 14th century and a reputation firmly established by the 18th century. Situated in Pauillac on the Left Bank of the Gironde, Latour has long been celebrated for producing some of the most powerful, structured and long-lived Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines in the world. Its core Enclos vineyard, with its deep gravel and clay soils, is counted among the greatest terroirs in Bordeaux. Over the past several decades, Latour has invested heavily in vineyard precision and cellar technology while remaining uncompromising in its selection for the grand vin. Frequently acclaimed by critics and collectors alike, Latour’s wines are benchmarks for the Pauillac style and among the most sought-after red wines globally.
