Description

Château Latour 1990 is a landmark Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s five Premier Grand Cru Classé estates. Celebrated for its depth, authority and remarkable longevity, this mature vintage combines classic Cabernet Sauvignon character with the complexity that has made Latour one of the world’s most revered wine producers.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep garnet colour, often with brick-red tones at the rim from bottle age. Its mature bouquet reveals cassis, blackcurrant and dark plum alongside graphite, cedar, tobacco leaf, cigar box, leather and earthy undergrowth. With time in the glass, further nuances of dried herbs and spice may emerge. On the palate, Château Latour 1990 is full-bodied and concentrated, with refined tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, persistent finish. The fruit remains generous and structured, while decades of bottle ageing have added savoury complexity and polish. This is a mature wine that is ready to enjoy, although well-stored bottles may continue to evolve gracefully over the coming years.

Production
Château Latour’s Grand Vin is rooted in the deep gravel soils of the Pauillac terroir, particularly the renowned Enclos surrounding the estate, where excellent drainage encourages deep-rooted vines. The blend is traditionally led by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, although the exact composition varies by vintage. Grapes are carefully selected and vinified parcel by parcel before maturation in French oak, allowing the wine’s powerful structure and distinctive mineral character to develop with time.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C alongside roast beef, rack of lamb, venison, beef Wellington or richly flavoured mushroom dishes. Mature Bordeaux is best decanted gently to separate the wine from any sediment; around 30–60 minutes of aeration is usually sufficient, though it is wise to taste the wine first, as older bottles can be delicate. Large Bordeaux glasses will help reveal its layered aromas.

Producer
Founded in the 17th century, Château Latour is one of Bordeaux’s most historic estates and has held Premier Grand Cru Classé status since the 1855 Classification. Located in Pauillac, its distinctive tower and exceptional gravel terroir have become symbols of the Médoc. Latour is renowned for producing powerful, age-worthy wines that combine intensity with precision, and its finest vintages are among the most sought-after expressions of classical Bordeaux.
