Why shop with us?
Larmandier-Bernier’s Les Chemins d’Avize is a single-vineyard Grand Cru Champagne made entirely from Chardonnay, expressing the chalk-rich terroir of Avize on the Côte des Blancs. Produced from old vines and finished Extra Brut, it is a distinctive vintage cuvée shaped by the estate’s biodynamic approach.
Tasting Notes
Expect a pale, fine-bubbled Champagne with a focused nose of citrus, orchard fruit and chalky, mineral notes. The palate is likely to be precise and energetic, with the very low dosage allowing the fruit and mineral character to take centre stage.
Production
The Chardonnay comes from two parcels, Chemin de Plivot and Chemin de Flavigny, where around 50-year-old vines grow in shallow, chalk-dominated soils. The grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed; the lightly settled juice ferments spontaneously in Stockinger oak casks, including malolactic fermentation. The base wine matures on its lees before bottling for secondary fermentation and extended ageing. Manual disgorgement and a dosage of just 2 g/l preserve the wine’s taut, mineral character.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C, in a tulip-shaped Champagne glass. It pairs beautifully with oysters, scallops, delicate seafood, or simply prepared white fish. Decanting is usually unnecessary; allow the wine a few minutes in the glass to open.
Producer
Larmandier-Bernier is a family-run Champagne producer based in Vertus, in the Côte des Blancs, with a reputation for expressing the character of its Chardonnay vineyards. The estate follows biodynamic principles and makes terroir-focused Champagnes, including single-vineyard cuvées such as Les Chemins d’Avize.
