Description
Larmandier-Bernier Latitude Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut is a precision-driven Champagne made entirely from Chardonnay, showcasing the purity and mineral tension for which the house is known. Sourced from a broad “latitude” of vineyards across the Côte des Blancs and crafted in an extra brut style, it offers a finely balanced expression of chalk, citrus, and subtle richness that stands out for its elegance and depth.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a pale straw color with a lively, persistent mousse. The nose is fresh and expressive, with notes of lemon zest, green apple, white flowers, crushed chalk, and a hint of brioche and almond from careful maturation on lees.
On the palate, it is crisp and focused, combining bright citrus and orchard fruit with a distinct saline, mineral finish. The texture is refined and energetic, with enough mid-palate weight to feel generous while remaining very dry and precise. With its structure and balance, it has strong aging potential and should develop greater complexity over time, gaining deeper pastry, nutty, and honeyed nuances.
Production
This Champagne draws on Chardonnay vineyards in and around the Côte des Blancs, where chalk-rich soils provide the tension and mineral character that define the wine. Larmandier-Bernier is known for low-intervention, terroir-focused viticulture, with careful vineyard work and hand harvesting aimed at preserving fruit purity and site expression. Vinification is typically carried out with a restrained approach to protect freshness, followed by extended aging to build complexity before disgorgement.
Food & Serving
Latitude Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut is a versatile food Champagne, excellent with oysters, sashimi, scallops, sushi, goat cheese, and delicate poultry dishes. Serve well chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, to highlight its freshness and fine mousse. Decanting is not necessary; simply allow a few minutes in the glass for the wine to open up.
Producer
Larmandier-Bernier is a respected grower-producer based in the Côte des Blancs, with family roots in Champagne stretching back generations. The estate has become one of the region’s leading names for terroir-driven Blanc de Blancs, especially through its commitment to organic and biodynamic farming. Its wines are widely admired for their precision, depth, and authentic expression of chalky Champagne soils.
