Lamole di Lamole Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto di Campolungo 2021 comes from one of the most evocative historic vineyards in Lamole, where Sangiovese is shaped by altitude, stone terraces, and centuries of human craftsmanship. This is a refined, site-driven Chianti Classico that combines aromatic generosity with the structure and depth expected from a Gran Selezione.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the vibrant ruby-red color typical of high-quality Sangiovese, with plenty of brightness and clarity. The nose is layered and expressive, offering red cherry, wild berries, dried herbs, violet, and subtle earthy and mineral tones, all lifted by the freshness that comes from the vineyard’s high elevation.
On the palate, Campolungo is elegant yet substantial, with juicy red fruit, fine-grained tannins, lively acidity, and a distinct mineral backbone. The wine feels precise and multi-dimensional, with good length and a savory finish that suggests excellent aging potential; it should develop beautifully over the next 8 to 15 years, gaining further nuance and complexity.
Production
Vigneto di Campolungo lies in Lamole at 420 to 580 meters above sea level, one of the higher and more characterful sites in Chianti Classico. The vineyard is defined by historic terraces, dry-stone walls, and a close interplay between landscape and cultivation, which helps preserve freshness and aromatic intensity in the Sangiovese grapes. The winemaking appears focused on bringing out the vineyard’s natural layering and finesse, resulting in a wine that reflects both the character of the site and careful cellar craftsmanship.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with classic Tuscan dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina, wild boar ragù, roast lamb, mushroom risotto, and aged Pecorino. Serve at 16-18°C and, if possible, decant for 30-60 minutes to allow the aromas to open and the structure to soften slightly.
