Description

Laherte Frères Champagne Rosé de Saignée Extra Brut Les Beaudiers is a striking, terroir-driven rosé Champagne crafted entirely from Pinot Meunier. Sourced from the prized “Les Beaudiers” parcels, this cuvée showcases the depth, character and gastronomic potential of old-vine Meunier in a serious, dry and elegantly structured style. Made in very limited quantities using traditional, labor‑intensive methods, it offers a distinctive expression of Champagne rosé that is both authentic and refined.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Les Beaudiers Rosé de Saignée presents a vivid, deep salmon-pink hue with copper glints and a fine, persistent mousse. The color hints at the saignée method, where a short maceration on the skins gives more intensity, texture and complexity than many pale rosés. The nose is expressive and inviting, with aromas of wild strawberries, raspberries and red currants layered with blood orange, pomegranate and rose petals. Subtle notes of chalk, fresh herbs, delicate spice and a touch of brioche add dimension. On the palate, it is dry and precise (Extra Brut), with a lively, chalk-tinged acidity that balances the generous red-fruit core. Flavors of ripe red berries, citrus zest and a hint of cranberry unfold over a fine, vinous structure, leading to a long, saline and mineral finish. This Champagne drinks beautifully now for its vibrancy and energy but also has the structure and concentration to evolve gracefully over 3–6 years, gaining more complexity and savory nuance with time on cork.

Production
Les Beaudiers is a single-site expression of Pinot Meunier from parcels in Chavot and its surroundings in the Côteaux Sud d’Épernay, where clay-limestone soils over chalk and cool Champagne climate combine to give naturally fresh, finely structured fruit. Laherte Frères farm these vines with great care, using traditional and sustainable methods, including short pruning to limit yields and regular manual ploughing to encourage deep root systems and healthy vines. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, then undergo a brief maceration (saignée) to draw color and flavor from the skins before pressing. Fermentation typically takes place in small vessels, often neutral oak, with a focus on preserving purity and texture rather than overt oak character. The wine then rests on its lees before secondary fermentation in bottle, followed by extended aging in the cellar. Dosage is kept very low (Extra Brut) to allow the chalky terroir and naturally concentrated Meunier fruit to shine through.

Food & Serving
This is a gastronomic rosé Champagne that pairs beautifully with finely prepared dishes. Try it with charcuterie, duck rillettes, roasted poultry, veal, tuna tartare, grilled salmon, or richer shellfish such as lobster and langoustines. It also works well with lightly spiced Asian dishes and mature, semi-soft cheeses. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its freshness while allowing the red-fruit and floral notes to open up. A brief decant of 15–20 minutes in a chilled carafe, or simply pouring the first glass and letting the bottle rest on ice, can help the wine express its full aromatic range.

Producer
Laherte Frères is a family-run grower estate based in Chavot, in the Côteaux Sud d’Épernay, founded in the late 19th century and now led by Aurélien Laherte. Over generations, the family has built a strong reputation for precise, terroir-expressive Champagnes that highlight individual parcels and traditional grape varieties, particularly Meunier. Farming much of their holdings organically and with biodynamic principles in parts of the vineyard, they emphasize low yields, careful handwork and minimal-intervention winemaking. Laherte Frères is widely regarded as one of the leading grower-producers in the region, with cuvées like Les Beaudiers Rosé de Saignée showcasing the estate’s craftsmanship and the remarkable potential of Champagne’s often-underestimated Meunier grape.
