Description

Laherte Frères Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature is a pure, incisive expression of Chardonnay from the sun-kissed southern slopes of Épernay. Crafted entirely from selected parcels of old-vine Chardonnay, it showcases the tension, minerality, and finesse that have made this corner of Champagne so prized. With no dosage added, this cuvée is an honest reflection of its terroir, offering a focused and vivid style of Blanc de Blancs that appeals to lovers of precision and energy.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Champagne shows a pale, luminous straw color with fine, persistent bubbles that form a delicate, creamy mousse. The nose is immediately vibrant and chalk-driven, with aromas of green apple, lemon zest, white flowers, and crushed limestone, layered with hints of almond, fresh bread dough, and a subtle, airy salinity. On the palate, it is tightly knit and linear at first, unfolding into a mouthwatering combination of citrus, green pear, and crisp stone fruits. The Brut Nature style emphasizes its racy acidity and pronounced mineral backbone, while old-vine depth brings a gentle creaminess and complexity to the mid-palate. Notes of grapefruit pith, toasted hazelnut, and a faint brioche character linger through a long, dry, and very precise finish. Enjoyable now for its energy and cut, it also has the structure to evolve beautifully over the next 5–7 years, gaining further nuance and texture in bottle.

Production
This Blanc de Blancs is sourced from Laherte Frères’ best Chardonnay parcels on the south-facing slopes around Épernay, where chalk and limestone-rich soils lend tension, salinity, and finesse to the wines. The fruit is harvested by hand to preserve purity and allow for strict selection in the vineyard. Fermentation typically takes place in a combination of tanks and neutral oak, encouraging complexity without overt wood influence, and a patient élevage on the lees enhances texture and aromatic depth. Bottled as a Brut Nature with no dosage, it is released only when the wine has spent extended time on its lees, ensuring a fine balance between precision, complexity, and drinkability.

Food & Serving
This Champagne’s brisk acidity and chalky structure make it a natural match for pristine seafood: oysters, scallop crudo, sushi and sashimi, or simply grilled white fish with lemon and herbs. It also pairs beautifully with delicate cheeses (fresh goat cheese, young Comté), vegetable tempura, or light dishes featuring citrus and fresh herbs. Serve well-chilled, around 8–10°C (46–50°F), to highlight its tension and minerality. A brief 10–15 minutes in a decanter, or simply letting it open in the glass, can help the wine unfurl its more subtle floral and nutty notes.

Producer
Laherte Frères is a respected, family-run grower estate based in Chavot, in the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay, a zone increasingly celebrated for its expressive, terroir-driven Champagnes. Founded in the late 19th century, the domaine has steadily built a reputation for meticulous viticulture and thoughtful, low-intervention winemaking, often working parcel by parcel to capture the individuality of their sites. With a strong emphasis on sustainable, and in many parcels organic or biodynamic, practices, Laherte Frères has become one of the key names in the grower-Champagne movement, admired by sommeliers and collectors for their precise, vibrant wines that speak clearly of place.
