Description

Château Lagrange is one of Saint-Julien’s most respected names, offering the poise and classic structure that have made Bordeaux’s Left Bank so admired. As a 3ème Grand Cru Classé, it combines pedigree, refinement, and the deep cellar-worthy character collectors look for in a fine red Bordeaux.

Tasting Notes
The 2023 Lagrange is expected to show a deeply coloured, youthful appearance with the polished clarity typical of a great Saint-Julien. Aromatically, it should lean toward blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, and subtle floral or spicy notes, with the fresh, precise profile that marks a well-made Cabernet-driven Bordeaux. On the palate, expect a harmonious balance of ripe dark fruit, firm but refined tannins, and a cool mineral edge that gives the wine its signature elegance. Built for the long haul, it should age beautifully over the next 10–20 years or more, gaining complexity, softness, and tertiary notes with cellaring.

Production
Lagrange’s vineyards in Saint-Julien benefit from the gravelly soils of Bordeaux’s Left Bank, which provide excellent drainage and help Cabernet Sauvignon achieve depth and structure. In a strong vintage such as 2023, careful vineyard management and precise harvesting are key to preserving balance, freshness, and aromatic purity. Vinification at this level is typically focused on parcel selection, temperature-controlled fermentation, and thoughtful maturation in oak barrels to integrate tannins and enhance complexity. The result is a wine that reflects both its terroir and the estate’s disciplined approach to Bordeaux winemaking.

Food & Serving
This is a natural partner for classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, or slow-braised short ribs, as well as hard aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open and show more of its layered aromatics and texture.

Producer
Château Lagrange has a long and distinguished history in Saint-Julien, with origins dating back centuries and a reputation strengthened by its classification as a 3ème Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Today it remains one of the commune’s benchmark estates, known for producing elegant, age-worthy wines that consistently express the character of Bordeaux’s Left Bank.
