La Valentina’s Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is a vivid expression of Abruzzo’s character, made from 100% Montepulciano and shaped by the Di Properzio family’s hands-on approach in the hills of Spoltore. This is a wine that balances generosity and freshness, with the kind of regional authenticity that has made Montepulciano d’Abruzzo one of Italy’s most loved red wines.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby color with violet reflections, signaling youthful energy and depth. The nose opens with black cherry and strawberry jam, followed by aromatic herbs, tea leaves, and a subtle thread of spice in the background. The palate is soft yet intense, with smooth, compact tannins that give the wine shape without heaviness. It finishes with a lightly savory, spicy edge and a mentholated aftertaste, leaving a pleasant sense of persistence. It should drink well now, while retaining enough structure to hold up over the next few years.

Production
The grapes come from the hills around Spoltore in Abruzzo, where the family has farmed since 1990, an area that gives Montepulciano its typical mix of ripeness, freshness, and savory depth. Fermentation and maceration last around 10 days in stainless steel, helping preserve the grape’s pure fruit profile. The wine then matures for about 18 months, mostly in stainless steel, with the remaining portion aged partly in 25 hl oak casks and partly in used barrels to add texture without masking the fruit.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted meats, grilled sausages, pasta with tomato-based sauces, and traditional Abruzzese dishes such as arrosticini. Serve at around 16–18°C to bring out its fruit and spice, and decanting is not essential, though a short aeration can help the wine open up if served young.
