Description
La Poderina Brunello di Montalcino is a finely crafted expression of one of Italy’s most celebrated red wines, made entirely from Sangiovese Grosso grown in the hills of Montalcino. Sourced from Castelnuovo dell’Abate and shaped by patient élevage, it captures the elegance, depth, and longevity that have made Brunello a benchmark for Tuscan wine lovers.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a clear garnet hue, signaling both refinement and structure. The nose opens with a distinct smoky character, followed by notes of blood, dark spice, plum, blackberry, and subtle woody tones.
On the palate, it is intense and powerful yet smooth, with lightly firm tannins and a long, persistent finish. Its balance of fruit, spice, and oak suggests excellent aging potential, with the wine likely to develop even greater complexity over time.
Production
Produced in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, in the southern part of Montalcino, this Brunello reflects the area’s warm Tuscan terroir and its ability to ripen Sangiovese Grosso to remarkable depth. Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless steel at controlled temperatures of 24–28°C, with daily pump-overs and délestage to extract color, aroma, and structure. The wine is then aged for 24 months in oak barrels, adding polish, texture, and complexity.
Food & Serving
This Brunello is an excellent match for roasted white or red meats, poultry, game, and mature cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C to allow its aromatic layers and structure to show at their best, and consider decanting for at least an hour if drinking it young.
Producer
La Poderina is a respected Brunello producer in Montalcino, known for wines that emphasize elegance, precision, and the character of the local terroir. With strong critical recognition, including 92 points from James Suckling and 93 points from Robert Parker, the winery has established itself as a notable name among modern Tuscan producers.
