Description
Orestiadi La Gelsomina Etna Rosé Metodo Classico Brut is a refined sparkling rosé from the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. Crafted from the very first clusters of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, it offers a vibrant, elegant expression of Sicily’s iconic native grapes in sparkling form. This Metodo Classico cuvée brings together Etna’s high-altitude freshness with traditional bottle fermentation, resulting in a wine that feels both authentic and pleasantly surprising in the glass.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Etna Rosé Metodo Classico shows a delicate, luminous onion-skin to pale salmon hue, animated by a fine, persistent bead of bubbles. The nose is inviting and complex, with notes of wild strawberry, pomegranate, pink grapefruit and blood orange peel, layered with hints of rose petals, crushed stone and a subtle, salty breeze from the Mediterranean.
On the palate, it is dry, crisp and beautifully linear, driven by bright acidity and a fine, creamy mousse. Red berry fruit, citrus zest and a whisper of wild herbs sit over a distinctly mineral backbone, reflecting its volcanic origins. The finish is clean, savoury and mouthwatering, encouraging another sip. Enjoy it in its youthful freshness over the next 2–4 years, when its fruit, tension and delicate autolytic notes are in perfect balance.
Production
La Gelsomina is set on the eastern side of Sicily, on the slopes of Etna, where volcanic soils rich in basalt and ash, combined with altitude and strong diurnal shifts, give Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio their hallmark finesse. The grapes for this rosé are harvested early, from the first, most vibrant clusters, to capture maximum freshness, aromatic purity and naturally brisk acidity—ideal for high-quality sparkling wine. After a gentle pressing to obtain its pale pink color, the base wine is fermented in temperature-controlled tanks, preserving delicate fruit and floral notes. It then undergoes a second fermentation in bottle according to the Metodo Classico tradition, resting on its lees for an extended period to build texture, complexity and a fine, persistent mousse before disgorgement and a carefully judged dosage.
Food & Serving
This Etna Rosé Metodo Classico Brut is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with fresh seafood such as oysters, shrimp tartare, octopus salad and crudo, as well as sushi and sashimi. It also works wonderfully with Sicilian antipasti, soft cheeses, charcuterie, grilled vegetables and delicate poultry or veal dishes. Serve well-chilled at around 6–8°C to highlight its precision and minerality. A brief 5–10 minutes in the glass is enough for it to open up; extended decanting is not necessary, but pouring into tulip-shaped sparkling flutes or white wine glasses will showcase its aromas best.
