Description

Kunjas Pošip 2020 is made from Pošip grapes selected from the winery’s finest parcels, where the vines are around 20–25 years old. Produced in a limited run of 12,000 bottles, it also reflects a family connection to Korčula’s winemaking past: some of the family’s leased vineyard plots are held under contracts dating back to the Austro-Hungarian period.

Production
The wine is made from selected parcels on Korčula. After six to eight hours of maceration, the grapes are pressed and fermented in used Slavonian oak casks—not barriques—at a controlled temperature of 16–18°C. The temperature control is especially important for Pošip’s naturally high sugar levels, which could otherwise cause fermentation to become excessively hot and finish prematurely. Harvesting methods are not specified.

Food & Serving
Serve with grilled or baked fish, shellfish, or other simply prepared seafood, which can complement the character of Pošip without overpowering it. A serving temperature of around 10–12°C is a useful guide; decanting is not generally necessary, though a brief time in the glass can help the wine open up.

Producer
Vinarija Kunjas is a family winery on Korčula. The family cultivates four hectares of its own vineyards and manages a further hectare under long-standing lease agreements, some of which date to the Austro-Hungarian era.
