Krug Vintage 2006 is a standout expression from one of Champagne’s most revered houses, capturing both the richness of the vintage and the precision that defines Krug. This is a deeply layered prestige cuvée, combining generosity, tension, and remarkable structure in a way that promises long cellaring potential.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a refined golden hue with persistent, fine bubbles. The nose is expressive and complex, with aromas of dried fruits, pear, freshly baked bread, caramelized apple, honeycomb, and toasted sourdough, all unfolding with impressive depth. On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, yet lifted by crisp, vibrant acidity that keeps the wine focused and energetic. Despite the generosity of the 2006 vintage, the wine feels tightly wound and composed, suggesting excellent evolution ahead. This is a Champagne built for the long haul and should continue to develop beautifully over many years.
Production
Produced in Champagne, France, Krug Vintage 2006 reflects the house’s meticulous approach to selecting and blending the best parcels from the year. The vintage benefited from a warm, generous growing season, but Krug shaped the wine with its signature precision, resulting in a Champagne that balances ripeness with remarkable restraint. The vinification follows Krug’s traditional philosophy of extensive cellar aging to build complexity, texture, and finesse.
Food & Serving
An excellent match for rich, refined dishes such as lobster, scallops, truffled poultry, roasted turbot, or aged Comté and Parmesan. It also pairs beautifully with dishes that echo its toasted, nutty character, such as brioche-based preparations or lightly caramelized seafood. Serve chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and consider decanting briefly if you want to open up its aromatic complexity.
Producer
Founded in 1843, Krug is one of Champagne’s most prestigious houses and is known for crafting wines of extraordinary depth, precision, and aging potential. Based in Reims, the house has built its reputation on parcel selection, reserve wine complexity, and a distinctive style that emphasizes both intensity and elegance. Krug is widely regarded as one of the benchmark producers in Champagne, with numerous acclaimed vintages to its name.
