Description

Krug Grande Cuvée 168ème Édition Magnum is a superb expression of Champagne craftsmanship, created to deliver the fullest expression of the House’s signature style, year after year. Built from 198 wines spanning 11 vintages, it combines complexity, depth, and finesse in a magnum format that enhances both texture and aging potential. Since 1843, Krug has pursued Joseph Krug’s original vision of offering the best possible Champagne every year, regardless of vintage conditions.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shines with a luminous golden hue and a stream of fine, persistent bubbles that signal its precision and quality. The nose is deep and layered, unfolding with aromas of ripe orchard fruit, citrus peel, almond, honey, brioche, spice, and hints of marzipan and gingerbread. The palate is remarkably balanced, with vibrant freshness wrapped around a rich, silky core. Flavors of hazelnut, nougat, candied citrus, brioche, and honey are carried by a refined mineral line and a long, graceful finish. This is a Champagne with superb cellaring potential, and in magnum it will evolve beautifully over many years, gaining even more nuance and depth.

Production
Krug Grande Cuvée 168ème Édition is assembled from 198 wines sourced across 11 different years, with the oldest from 1996 and the youngest from 2012. This multivintage blending is central to Krug’s philosophy, allowing the House to create a Champagne of extraordinary consistency, richness, and aromatic complexity beyond what any single harvest could deliver. It spends around seven years aging in Krug’s cellars, which helps shape its signature elegance and complexity.

Food & Serving
This is a Champagne to enjoy with refined dishes such as lobster, scallops, roasted poultry, truffle risotto, foie gras, or aged hard cheeses. It also pairs beautifully with salted nuts, sushi, and delicate dishes that can match its complexity. Serve chilled, ideally around 9–11°C, and decanting is not necessary, though a few minutes in the glass will help it open further.

Producer
Champagne Krug was founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, whose ambition was to craft the finest Champagne possible every year, without being limited by vintage variation. Today, Krug remains one of the most prestigious names in Champagne, celebrated for its meticulous blending, patience in aging, and unmistakably luxurious house style. Its Grande Cuvée is widely regarded as the benchmark for non-vintage prestige Champagne.
