First created in 1979, it broke with Champagne convention by celebrating the purity of one vineyard, one grape, and one exceptional year.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an intense golden hue, hinting at both richness and maturity. The nose is layered and expressive, with aromas of toffee apple, caramel, ripe citrus fruit, and a delicate touch of toasted nuts, all underscored by a subtle wheat-like note. The palate is remarkably generous and broad at first, unfolding notes of brown sugar, candied ginger, and pecan before giving way to a vibrant core of citrus freshness. Despite its depth and complexity, it remains beautifully poised, finishing long, elegant, and precise. This is a Champagne with outstanding aging potential, though it is already offering remarkable complexity now.

Production
Clos du Mesnil comes from a tiny 1.84-hectare walled vineyard in Mesnil-sur-Oger, one of the most iconic Chardonnay villages in Champagne. The site’s chalky terroir and focused exposition help produce grapes of exceptional tension, minerality, and aromatic definition. For this cuvée, Krug harvests a single parcel in a single vintage, emphasizing the individuality of the vineyard through meticulous vinification and long ageing on the lees.

Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with refined dishes that echo its depth and freshness, such as lobster, turbot, scallops, truffle risotto, or aged Comté. Serve well chilled at around 10–12°C. Decanting is not necessary, but a few minutes in the glass will allow its aromatic complexity to open fully.
