Krug Clos d’Ambonnay 2006 is one of Champagne’s rarest treasures: a single-parcel vintage Champagne made exclusively from Pinot Noir grown in the tiny, walled Clos d’Ambonnay vineyard in Ambonnay. Produced in extremely limited quantities, it captures both the precision of Krug and the singular character of one of the region’s most coveted terroirs.
Tasting Notes
Deep golden in the glass, this Champagne shows remarkable concentration and finesse. The nose opens with layers of ripe red berries, citrus zest, honey, and toasted brioche, followed by subtle mineral notes that add lift and tension.
On the palate, it is broad, powerful, and beautifully balanced, with vivid freshness framing a rich, textured core. The finish is long and persistent, suggesting excellent aging potential and the ability to develop even greater complexity over time.
Production
Clos d’Ambonnay comes from a secluded 0.68-hectare vineyard in the heart of Champagne, where chalk-rich soils and the sheltered nature of the clos help preserve intensity and purity. The 2006 vintage Pinot Noir was harvested from this single site and vinified with Krug’s signature focus on precision and expression, resulting in a Champagne that reflects both vintage character and the identity of the vineyard.
Food & Serving
Best served chilled at around 10–12°C to preserve its freshness and complexity. This Champagne pairs exceptionally well with refined dishes such as lobster, turbot, scallops, truffle risotto, or even roast poultry, and it can also be enjoyed on its own as a contemplative wine. Decanting is generally not necessary, though a short rest in the glass can help it open beautifully.
Producer
Founded in 1843, Champagne Krug is one of the most revered houses in the region, celebrated for its meticulous craftsmanship, long aging, and exceptional blends. Clos d’Ambonnay was introduced as one of Krug’s rarest single-vineyard expressions, reinforcing the house’s reputation for producing some of the most sought-after and collectible Champagnes in the world.
