Description

Krug Clos d'Ambonnay 2006 is one of Champagne’s rarest and most singular expressions, crafted entirely from Pinot Noir grown in Krug’s tiny walled vineyard in Ambonnay. Produced only in exceptional years, it combines extraordinary precision, depth, and elegance with the unmistakable signature of one of Champagne’s most prestigious houses. A modern icon with a rich historical resonance, it reflects Krug’s dedication to terroir-driven excellence at the highest level.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a luminous golden hue with fine, persistent bubbles that hint at its concentration and refinement. The nose is intensely layered, with aromas of white flowers, citrus peel, baked apple, brioche, hazelnut, and subtle mineral notes, gradually unfolding with remarkable complexity. On the palate, it is precise yet powerful, with a silky texture, vibrant acidity, and a profound core of Pinot Noir fruit framed by chalky tension and savory nuance. The finish is long, focused, and deeply expressive, with superb aging potential—this is a Champagne built for long cellaring, where it can continue to gain nuance and depth over many years.

Production
Clos d’Ambonnay comes from a tiny, enclosed vineyard in Ambonnay, one of Champagne’s most highly regarded Pinot Noir villages, where chalk-rich soils and a sheltered microclimate contribute to exceptional ripeness and structure. The grapes are harvested by hand and selected with extreme care, with vinification focused on preserving purity, concentration, and the individual character of the site. As with other Krug wines, the production is meticulous and time-intensive, emphasizing craftsmanship and precision at every stage.

Food & Serving
This Champagne pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as lobster, langoustine, truffled poultry, caviar, veal, or delicate mushroom-based cuisine. Serve well chilled, ideally around 9–11°C, in a large tulip-shaped glass to allow the wine to open gradually. Decanting is generally unnecessary, but a few minutes in the glass can help reveal its full aromatic breadth.

Producer
Founded in 1843, Krug has built a global reputation for producing some of the most prestigious and expressive Champagnes in the world. Known for its uncompromising standards, the house is celebrated for depth, complexity, and longevity, as well as for wines that consistently reflect both craft and place. Clos d’Ambonnay stands as one of Krug’s most extraordinary achievements, showcasing the house’s ability to elevate a single vineyard into a wine of rare distinction.
