Tasting Notes
In the glass, Krug 2013 shows a bright, vibrant profile with fine bubbles and a focused, crystalline energy. Chardonnay leads the aromatic expression with vivid citrus notes of lemon, grapefruit, and candied citrus, lifted by subtle floral nuances. Pinot Noir and Meunier add structure, depth, and a discreet ripe-fruit character that rounds out the wine without softening its tension. On the palate, it is taut, elegant, and intensely refined, with a lively acidity that carries the wine through a long, mineral finish. Krug’s tasting panel aptly named the vintage “Exalted Citrus,” and that description captures its radiant, precise character perfectly. Krug 2013 is crafted from a blend of 41% Pinot Noir, 38% Chardonnay, and 21% Meunier, reflecting the house’s meticulous approach to blending. The late, cool harvest of 2013 contributed to the wine’s freshness and energetic structure, while careful vinification preserves purity, precision, and the layered complexity for which Krug is known.

This is an exceptional Champagne for both aperitif and gastronomy. It pairs beautifully with refined seafood, shellfish, sashimi, poultry with delicate sauces, and dishes featuring citrus or mineral-driven accents. Serve chilled at around 8-10°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a brief rest in the glass can help the aromas open further.
