Description

Krug 1990 is a remarkable vintage Champagne that showcases the house’s signature depth, precision, and generosity. Built from a classic blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier, it captures the richness of a near-perfect Champagne harvest and the kind of complexity that only comes with long maturation in Krug’s cellars. As with all Krug Vintage wines, it is a singular expression of one exceptional year.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Krug 1990 shows a deep golden color with a refined, persistent mousse that speaks to its careful aging. The nose is layered and expressive, with aromas of ripe orchard fruit, dried apricots, toasted nuts, honey, and a subtle spice note that adds further depth. The palate is full-bodied and silky, balancing ripe fruit intensity with vibrant freshness and a discreet mineral line. It finishes long, complex, and remarkably fresh, with enough structure and concentration to suggest excellent aging potential even now. While beautifully developed, it can still continue to evolve gracefully in bottle over many years.

Production
The 1990 vintage in Champagne benefited from exceptionally favorable weather, allowing the grapes to reach outstanding ripeness and concentration. Krug selected the most expressive wines from that single harvest and assembled them into a vintage cuvée built around Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Meunier. Extended aging of more than ten years in Krug’s cellars helped shape the wine’s signature texture, integration, and complexity.

Food & Serving
Krug 1990 is ideal with refined dishes such as lobster, scallops, truffled poultry, aged Comté, or delicate dishes with mushrooms and creamy sauces. Serve well chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, to allow its aromatics and texture to fully open. Decanting is not usually necessary, but a short time in the glass can help reveal its many layers.

Producer
Champagne Krug is one of the most revered houses in Champagne, founded in 1843 and known for producing some of the region’s most expressive and luxurious wines. Its reputation rests on meticulous selection, long cellar aging, and a style that emphasizes depth, complexity, and individuality. Krug Vintage wines are especially celebrated for capturing the essence of a single year while bearing the unmistakable hallmark of the house.
