Tasting Notes
The 2022 vintage opens with remarkable aromatic complexity: lemon cream, baked quince, toasted hazelnut, flint, honey, and a subtle weave of vanilla and beeswax. In the glass, it is monumental yet never heavy, delivering a silky, deeply layered palate with exceptional depth and length. The acidity is precise and vibrant, giving the wine a live-wire energy that carries through to a long finish marked by chalk, salinity, and citrus zest. With its concentration, structure, and balance, The Judge 2022 has the potential to age beautifully over the next 10–15 years, developing even greater nuance and complexity.

Production
Fruit for The Judge comes from a tiny, high-elevation parcel in Napa Valley with extremely low yields, farmed without irrigation and with great respect for the living soils. The grapes are whole-cluster pressed and fermented spontaneously in new French barriques, followed by full malolactic fermentation and approximately 22 months of lees aging. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered, preserving its pure, concentrated essence.

This is a Chardonnay that deserves refined pairings such as butter-poached lobster, roast turbot, scallops, free-range chicken with cream sauce, or rich mushroom dishes. Serve it at around 10–12°C, and consider a short decant if you want to open up its aromatic complexity in its youth.
