K. F. Groebe’s 2022 Westhofener Riesling trocken showcases the distinctive character of two of Westhofen’s finest vineyard sites: Aulerde and Kirchspiel. Combining the power of deep loess soils with the elegance of limestone, it offers a compelling alternative to more celebrated Grosses Gewächs wines while already expressing clear site character and excellent aging potential.

Tasting Notes
Bright and precise in the glass, this Riesling opens with juicy citrus and classic Riesling fruit, complemented by subtle smoky nuances and refreshing lemon balm. On the palate, it is both concentrated and elegant, with the weight and depth of Aulerde balanced by the cool, chalky mineral character of Kirchspiel. A lively yet ripe acidity brings focus, complexity and impressive length. Delicious in its youth, the wine should develop further bottle complexity over the next several years.

Production
The grapes come exclusively from the top vineyard parcels of Westhofen, Aulerde and Kirchspiel. Although situated close to one another, the sites contribute markedly different qualities: Aulerde’s heavy loess soils provide richness, power and depth, while Kirchspiel’s high limestone content brings finesse, precision and cool mineral freshness. Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C. Its combination of ripe acidity, mineral freshness and generous texture makes it a natural partner for grilled or poached fish, seafood, poultry, asparagus and creamy dishes, while its depth also suits mildly spicy Asian cuisine. Decanting is not essential, but a brief 15–20 minutes of air can help reveal the wine’s smoky and mineral nuances, particularly when enjoyed young.
