Description

K.F. Groebe’s 2022 Westhofener trocken is a dry Riesling made from fruit drawn from two of the village’s finest sites, Aulerde and Kirchspiel. It shows how a Westhofen Ortswein can express a strong sense of place and offer excellent potential to develop with age.

Tasting Notes
Juicy and expressive, with classic Riesling fruit complemented by subtle smoky notes and hints of lemon balm. The palate balances power and depth with elegance, lifted by a racy yet ripe acidity and a cool mineral character. It is already appealing, but its structure and stated ageing potential should reward careful cellaring.

Production
The grapes come exclusively from Aulerde and Kirchspiel in Westhofen. Aulerde’s heavy loess soils contribute strength, depth and a rounded richness, while Kirchspiel’s high limestone content brings finesse, elegance and cool minerality. Details of harvesting and vinification are not provided.

Food & Serving
Try it with freshwater fish, roast poultry, or dishes with herbs and citrus; its acidity also suits pork and moderately spicy Asian cuisine. Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C. A brief rest in the glass should allow its aromas to open; decanting is not essential.
