Julien Guillot’s Clos des Vignes du Maynes Bourgogne Rouge Cuvée Auguste 2023 is a vivid expression of Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most respected biodynamic domaines. Crafted with a focus on purity, finesse, and terroir transparency, it reflects both the historic character of the Clos and the hands-off winemaking style that has made the estate a benchmark for natural Burgundy.
Tasting Notes
Expect a bright ruby color with a lively, youthful sheen. The nose is fragrant and precise, opening with red cherry, wild strawberry, and cranberry, followed by subtle floral notes, damp earth, and a delicate spice lift.
On the palate, it is fresh and energetic, with fine tannins and a graceful, mineral-driven core. The fruit profile is clean and poised rather than heavily extracted, making it a highly drinkable Burgundy with good balance and the potential to gain extra complexity over the next few years.
Production
Sourced from the historic Clos des Vignes du Maynes in Burgundy, the wine comes from organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards with a strong emphasis on living soils and low intervention. The grapes are typically harvested by hand to preserve fruit quality, then vinified with minimal cellar manipulation to allow the character of the vineyard and vintage to shine through.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is a versatile match for roast chicken, duck breast, mushroom dishes, veal, or lightly aged cheeses. Serve slightly chilled at around 14–16°C, and decanting is optional but can help open the wine if enjoyed young.
Producer
Domaine des Vignes du Maynes is a historic Burgundy estate with deep roots in the region and a reputation for producing authentic, terroir-driven wines.
