Joaquin’s JQN203 Piante a Lapio is a remarkable Campania white built around the local Fiano grape, showing just how expressive and age-worthy this once-overlooked variety can be. Crafted by Raffaele Pagano, one of the key champions of Campania’s native grapes, it comes from an exceptionally old single parcel and is released only when the winery feels it has reached its ideal drinking window.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a beautiful golden color that immediately hints at its evolution. The bouquet is layered and complex, with aromas of nuts, honey, dried fruit and windfall apples, gradually giving way to brighter notes of tropical fruit, citrus and ripe stone fruit. On the palate, it is a serious, concentrated white with impressive depth and texture, balancing mature, savory complexity with fresh fruit energy. The long aging in bottle and wood adds richness and nuance rather than heaviness, and this wine should continue to hold well for years thanks to its structure and intensity.

Production
Piante a Lapio comes from a single parcel of just under one hectare in Campania, planted with very old vines between 80 and 100 years of age. The vineyard benefits from a unique mesoclimate shaped by a nearby forest, which provides shelter and helps preserve freshness in the grapes. After harvest, the wine is matured for five years in a combination of chestnut and acacia barrels, followed by extended cellar aging before release.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for rich seafood, roast poultry, mature cheeses, truffle dishes or creamy risotto, where its depth and savory complexity can really shine. Serve slightly chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and consider a brief decant if you want the aromatics to open up more quickly.
