Description

Jermann Vintage Tunina Magnum 2023 is a benchmark Italian white wine, presented here in a generous 1.5L format that’s made for the table and for the cellar. This iconic Friulian blend combines Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Ribolla Gialla and Malvasia Bianca into a layered, elegant and age‑worthy wine that has long been considered one of Italy’s greatest whites. First created in the 1970s, Vintage Tunina helped put Friuli‑Venezia Giulia on the world wine map and continues to be a reference point for refined, complex white blends.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 Vintage Tunina shows a luminous straw yellow color with golden highlights, enhanced beautifully by the magnum format’s slower evolution. The nose is refined and intense, with notes of ripe peach, golden apple, lemon zest and white flowers, layered with hints of acacia honey, fresh herbs, and a subtle mineral edge. Delicate spicy nuances and a touch of almond round out the aromatic profile. On the palate, this wine is full‑bodied yet impeccably balanced, with a creamy texture supported by vibrant acidity. Flavors of stone fruits, citrus, and ripe pear unfold alongside hints of tropical fruit, sage, and saline minerality, giving both depth and freshness. The finish is long, precise, and elegant, with a gentle nuttiness and fine persistence. In magnum, the 2023 has excellent aging potential: while already expressive in its youth, it should gain in complexity and harmony over 8–12 years, developing more honeyed, nutty and tertiary notes with time.

Production
Vintage Tunina is sourced from estate vineyards in Friuli‑Venezia Giulia, where hillside sites with marl and sandstone soils (known locally as ponca) give naturally low yields and a distinct mineral signature. The region’s cool nights, warm days and proximity to both the Alps and the Adriatic Sea help preserve freshness and aromatic detail in the grapes. The varieties—primarily Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, complemented by Ribolla and Malvasia—are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, often slightly later to ensure depth and richness. After careful selection, the grapes are gently pressed and the must is fermented at controlled temperatures to preserve delicate aromas. A portion of the wine typically matures on fine lees, partly in stainless steel and partly in large wooden vessels, adding texture and complexity while maintaining purity and tension in the final blend.

Food & Serving
This magnum of Vintage Tunina is a versatile partner for refined cuisine, especially seafood and delicate white meats. It pairs beautifully with shellfish (lobster, scallops, prawns), grilled or baked fish, risotto with seafood or spring vegetables, roasted chicken with herbs, and fine pasta dishes with cream or truffle. It also works wonderfully with soft cheeses and mature mountain cheeses from Northern Italy. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight both freshness and complexity. For maximum expression, especially as the wine gains a few years of age, decant for 30–45 minutes before serving from the magnum to allow the aromas to fully open.

Producer
Jermann is one of the most celebrated names in Friuli‑Venezia Giulia and a pioneer of high‑quality Italian white wine. Founded in the late 19th century by the Jermann family, who emigrated from Austria to Italy, the estate truly rose to international prominence under Silvio Jermann in the 1970s and 1980s. His innovative approach to blends and meticulous work in both vineyard and cellar helped redefine expectations for Italian whites. Vintage Tunina, in particular, became a flagship cuvée and a symbol of Friuli’s potential, frequently earning top scores and a place on the wine lists of leading restaurants worldwide. Today, Jermann remains a reference producer in the region, known for precision, consistency and wines that combine character, finesse and aging capacity.
