Description
Jean-Marc Bouley’s Pommard 1er Cru Les Fremiers 2011 is a finely crafted Burgundy that captures the depth and precision for which Pommard is admired. Made from 100% Pinot Noir sourced from a respected Premier Cru site, it combines classic structure with the elegance and nuance that make top Bourgogne wines so sought after.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a clear ruby-red color, leading into an expressive nose of red cherry, raspberry, and wild berries. With air, more savory layers emerge: forest floor, spice, licorice, and a gentle touch of oak, giving the bouquet both freshness and complexity.
The palate is elegant yet well-built, with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a mineral backbone that keeps the wine poised from start to finish. The finish is long and persistent, and while already expressive, it has the structure to develop additional depth and tertiary notes over the next 15 to 20 years with proper cellaring.
Production
Les Fremiers is a highly regarded Premier Cru vineyard in Pommard, where the terroir is known for producing Pinot Noir with concentration, finesse, and an unmistakable sense of place. The 2011 vintage in Burgundy presented challenging and variable weather, but careful vineyard work and selective harvesting helped preserve quality and deliver fruit with good definition and balance. Vinification was handled with a focus on purity and structure, allowing the vineyard character to shine through with subtle oak influence rather than overwhelming it.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled beef, game, roast lamb, and mature cheeses. Serve it at 16–18°C, and decant for about an hour before serving to help the aromas unfold and the wine show its full complexity.
