Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a strikingly deep, vibrant violet-red hue, unusually intense for Pinot Noir and a clear sign of its concentration. The nose opens with layers of ripe black fruit—blackberry, black cherry and blackcurrant—wrapped in notes of sweet spice, violet, subtle pepper and a hint of cocoa and earth. On the palate, it is full-bodied for a Burgundy, with dense black fruit at the core, framed by lively acidity and finely etched tannins. Spicy, very ripe dark fruit notes echo from the nose into the mouth, joined by a touch of graphite and dried herbs, leading into a long, persistent and generously textured finish. The structure and freshness suggest it will drink well young for its pure, exuberant fruit, but also has the backbone to evolve gracefully over 7–10 years, gaining complexity and silkier texture with time in bottle.

The Croix Violette Vieilles Vignes parcel lies within the Côte de Nuits-Villages appellation in Burgundy, on classic limestone-clay soils that naturally limit vigor and enhance mineral tension in Pinot Noir. Old vines with millerandage (small, naturally low-yielding berries) are farmed with an emphasis on low yields and optimal ripeness, resulting in remarkable concentration. Harvesting is done by hand to allow strict sorting of the fruit. In the cellar, the grapes are vinified with care to preserve aromatic intensity and terroir expression—typically involving gentle extraction, temperature-controlled fermentation, and aging in French oak barrels (with a judicious proportion of new oak) to refine the tannins and add subtle complexity without overpowering the wine’s vibrant fruit.

This powerful yet refined Côte de Nuits-Villages pairs beautifully with roasted duck, lacquered pork, grilled lamb chops, coq au vin, or mushroom-based dishes like porcini risotto and wild mushroom tart.
