Description
Jacquesson Lieux-Dits 2009 is a rare and highly compelling tasting set from one of Champagne’s most respected maisons, bringing together three distinct single-parcel expressions from Avize, Dizy, and Ay. This selection showcases the house’s precision and site-driven style, with each cuvée reflecting a different facet of the exceptional 2009 vintage and Jacquesson’s long-standing commitment to terroir-driven Champagne.
Tasting Notes
The set offers a remarkable range of aromatics and textures, from the crystalline purity of the Avize Blanc de Blancs to the layered, vinous complexity of Dizy Corne Bautray and the broader, more textured expression of Ay Vauzelle Terme. Expect notes of orchard fruit, citrus, white flowers, honey, toasted nuts, brioche, and subtle mineral tones, all carried by a refined mousse and a long, saline finish.
Aged and disgorged in 2019, these Champagnes are at an excellent point for drinking now, with the 2009 vintage offering ripe fruit, generous mouthfeel, and softened acidity. The Avize bottling is especially expressive and dry, while Dizy and Ay bring greater depth, chalky grip, and complexity that should continue to evolve gracefully over the coming years.
Production
This tasting case comes from three carefully selected lieu-dits in Champagne, each with its own distinct terroir. Avize Champ Cain sits on a south-facing slope with clay, sand, and silt over chalk; Dizy Corne Bautray comes from a steep southwest-facing hillside with silt over limestone; and Ay Vauzelle Terme is rooted in a south-facing clay-and-chalk site planted to Pinot Noir. The vineyards are farmed with organic methods where specified, and the old vines contribute depth, concentration, and a clear sense of place.
The wines were harvested in the warm, dry 2009 vintage, which delivered fully ripe grapes and a richer style overall. Base wines were bottled in 2010, and the cuvées were disgorged in 2019, with very low or no dosage depending on the bottling, allowing the character of each parcel and the vintage to shine through with remarkable transparency.
Food & Serving
These Champagnes are ideal with refined dishes such as oysters, sashimi, scallops, roast chicken with herbs, creamy risotto, or aged hard cheeses, and the richer bottles in the set also pair beautifully with truffled dishes, lobster, or even veal. Serve chilled at around 8-10°C, and consider a short decant only if you want to open up the more structured expressions such as Dizy or Ay; the Avize Blanc de Blancs is best enjoyed fresh and focused.
