Description
Jacquesson Corne Bautray 2008 Magnum is a striking single-parcel Champagne that showcases Chardonnay at its most precise and expressive. Produced in an exceptionally limited magnum release, it combines purity, depth, and tension in a style that has made Jacquesson a benchmark for serious Champagne lovers. Degorged without dosage, it reflects both the house’s meticulous approach and the character of a celebrated 2008 vintage.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Champagne shows a luminous, youthful profile with fine, persistent bubbles and a bright golden hue. The bouquet opens with citrus oil, clear honey, preserved rhubarb, and subtle notes of fresh pastry, giving it a layered and inviting aromatic complexity.
On the palate, it is broad, concentrated, and beautifully multidimensional, with a firm backbone of acidity that keeps everything focused and energetic. The finish is long and precise, with enough power and structure to reward further cellaring, while already offering immense appeal to Champagne purists.
Production
Corne Bautray is a single-vineyard Chardonnay site in Champagne, and the 2008 vintage delivered the kind of balance and ripeness that suits a terroir-driven cuvée of this caliber. The wine was produced in a tiny quantity, with only 304 magnums made, and it was disgorged in April 2018 without dosage to preserve maximum clarity and site expression. The magnum format also supports slower evolution and a more graceful development over time.
Food & Serving
This Champagne pairs beautifully with refined seafood such as oysters, scallops, lobster, or turbot, as well as delicacies like roast chicken, truffled dishes, or aged Comté. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C, and consider opening it a little in advance rather than heavy decanting, as the magnum format and zero-dosage style benefit from a brief period in the glass to unfold.
Producer
Champagne Jacquesson is one of Champagne’s most respected grower-producers, known for its terroir-focused wines, low-intervention philosophy, and precise, articulate style. The house has earned a strong reputation among collectors for crafting Champagnes of depth and character rather than overt richness. Its single-vineyard bottlings, such as Corne Bautray, are among the most sought-after expressions in the region.
