Description

Jacquesson Avize Champ Cain Brut Récolte 2008 Magnum is a striking Blanc de Blancs from one of Champagne’s most admired producers, offering serious depth, precision, and freshness in magnum format. Made entirely from Chardonnay grown in Avize, it reflects the elegance of a great Côte des Blancs site and the character of an exceptional vintage, with a reputation that is backed by 97 points from Robert Parker.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it appears bright and luminous, with a fine, almost weightless stream of bubbles. The nose is layered and expressive, showing citrus zest, green apple, walnut, marzipan, and subtle hints of butter and honey. On the palate, this is a dry, full-bodied Blanc de Blancs with impressive concentration and a multidimensional texture. There is remarkable volume through the mid-palate, followed by a long, chalk-driven finish that keeps the wine precise and persistent. With its structure and balance, it has excellent aging potential and should continue to develop beautifully over time.

Production
The Avize Champ Cain parcel sits at the base of a south-facing slope in Avize, where the soils combine clay, sand, and silt over a chalk subsoil. The 1.3-hectare vineyard is planted with Chardonnay vines dating back to 1962, and the old vines are farmed using organic methods. Disgorged in April 2018 with a low dosage of 2.5 g/L, this cuvée captures both the purity of the site and the depth of mature fruit.

Food & Serving
This Champagne pairs beautifully with oysters, langoustines, sashimi, scallops, or refined poultry dishes, as well as aged Comté and other hard cheeses. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C to preserve its energy and precision. Decanting is not necessary, though a short rest in the glass can help the aromas open further.

Producer
Champagne Jacquesson is one of the most respected names in the region, known for its thoughtful, terroir-driven approach and meticulous winemaking. The house has earned a strong reputation among Champagne enthusiasts for producing wines of tension, detail, and individuality rather than overt richness. Its wines are highly regarded for their quality and consistency, with several cuvées achieving notable critical acclaim.
