Description

Jacques Rousseaux Champagne Grand Cru Extra Brut Tradition is a refined grower Champagne crafted entirely from Pinot Noir, offering a pure and focused expression of some of Champagne’s finest vineyards. With its Grand Cru pedigree and extra brut style, this cuvée is all about precision, elegance, and terroir-driven character. Made in small quantities by an independent family producer, it bridges traditional Champagne craftsmanship with a more contemporary, drier taste profile that appeals to modern wine lovers.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Champagne typically shows a luminous pale gold color with delicate, persistent bubbles forming a fine mousse. On the nose, expect vibrant aromas of red apple skin, citrus zest, and white flowers layered with hints of brioche, toasted almonds, and subtle chalky minerality that signal its Grand Cru origins. The palate is taut, dry, and energetic, reflecting the extra brut dosage with crisp acidity and a well-defined structure. Pure Pinot Noir fruit comes through with notes of ripe pear, redcurrant, and a touch of stone fruit, supported by nuances of pastry, hazelnut, and a saline, mineral edge on the finish. The texture is both silky and precise, with a long, mouthwatering aftertaste. While it is beautifully approachable now, a few years of cellaring will allow the wine to gain additional complexity, softening the edges and enhancing its toasty, autolytic notes.

Production
This Grand Cru Champagne is sourced from top-rated vineyards in the Champagne region, where chalk-rich soils and cool climate conditions provide ideal growing conditions for Pinot Noir. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy fruit makes it into the press, a crucial step for high-quality Champagne. In the cellar, the base wines are vinified with great attention to preserving freshness and purity, followed by secondary fermentation in bottle and extended aging on the lees to build texture and complexity. The extra brut dosage keeps the sugar level very low, allowing the character of the Pinot Noir and the Grand Cru terroir to shine through with clarity.

Food & Serving
Jacques Rousseaux Champagne Grand Cru Extra Brut Tradition is a superb partner for refined yet flavorful dishes. It pairs particularly well with oysters, scallop crudo, caviar, sushi, and sashimi, as well as delicately prepared white fish and shellfish. The structure from Pinot Noir also makes it a wonderful match for charcuterie, poultry, light game birds, and creamy, mild cheeses. Serve well chilled, ideally around 8–10°C (46–50°F), to highlight its freshness and fine mousse. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass or a quick, gentle decant into a chilled carafe can help the aromas open up, especially if you are serving it with food.

Producer
Jacques Rousseaux is a family-run Champagne producer known for crafting characterful, terroir-focused wines from their own vineyards in the renowned Champagne region of France. Working on a smaller, more artisanal scale than the big houses, the domaine emphasizes meticulous vineyard work, low yields, and thoughtful cellar practices to express the nuances of their Pinot Noir–dominant vineyards. Over the years, Jacques Rousseaux has earned a loyal following among Champagne enthusiasts who seek authentic grower Champagnes with a strong sense of place and a consistently high level of craftsmanship.
