Description
Jacques-Frederic Mugnier Le Musigny Grand Cru 2006 is a superb expression of fine Burgundy, drawn from one of the most coveted vineyard sites in the world. Produced by one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most respected names, it combines soaring elegance with remarkable depth, showing the kind of balance and finesse that have made Musigny legendary.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a refined, luminous ruby-garnet hue, hinting at its age and class. The bouquet is beautifully layered with ripe cherry, wild raspberry, dried rose petals, violet, forest floor, oriental spice, and a subtle touch of truffle, gradually revealing more tertiary complexity as it opens.
On the palate, it is silky, precise, and deeply expressive, with red berry fruit, floral notes, and a distinct mineral edge carried by an almost weightless structure. The intensity is impressive without ever becoming heavy, and the finish is exceptionally long. While it already offers immense pleasure, it still has excellent aging potential for collectors who prefer to cellar further.
Production
Le Musigny is one of the great grand cru vineyards of Chambolle-Musigny, a site known for producing Pinot Noir of exceptional perfume, purity, and nuance. Jacques-Frederic Mugnier is renowned for working with great restraint and precision, allowing the character of the vineyard and vintage to speak clearly. The grapes are carefully harvested and vinified to preserve elegance, freshness, and transparency, resulting in a wine that reflects both site and producer with exceptional clarity.
Food & Serving
This is a wine to serve with refined dishes such as duck breast, roast pigeon, veal, game birds, or dishes featuring mushrooms, truffle, or earthy root vegetables. Serve at around 16-18°C and decant gently if needed, though older bottles may be best opened carefully and allowed to unfold slowly in the glass.
Producer
Jacques-Frederic Mugnier is one of Burgundy’s most admired producers, especially in Chambolle-Musigny, where the domaine is celebrated for its graceful, terroir-driven wines. The estate has a strong reputation for producing Pinot Noir of extraordinary purity and precision, and its holdings in Musigny are among the most prestigious in the region. Over time, Mugnier has become a benchmark for elegance in Burgundy and a favorite among collectors worldwide.
