Description
Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 is a classic Napa Valley Cabernet from the historic Rutherford estate, offering deep fruit, refined structure, and the kind of polished elegance that has made Inglenook a benchmark name in California wine. Crafted from carefully selected estate-grown grapes and aged in French and American oak, it reflects both tradition and precision in equal measure. This is also a wine with real heritage, paying tribute to the legendary Inglenook legacy that dates back to 1879.
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet-purple in the glass, the 2017 vintage shows a concentrated core of black and red fruit, layered with dried roses, kirsch, black cherries, bay leaf, and a subtle earthy note. On the palate it is medium-bodied yet firmly structured, with bright fruit, fine mature tannins, and a chewy backbone that leads into a lively, herbal finish. The balance and freshness suggest strong cellaring potential, with the ability to develop additional complexity over the next decade or more.
Production
The grapes come from Inglenook’s own vineyards in Rutherford, one of the most prized parts of Napa Valley, where the gravelly soils and warm days with cooler evening influence help produce ripe but balanced Cabernet. Fruit is hand-harvested and carefully selected, with a gentle vinification approach designed to preserve finesse and aromatic detail. The wine is then matured for 18 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, adding structure, spice, and a subtle layer of complexity.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled ribeye, roast lamb, beef tenderloin, or braised short ribs, and it also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours, especially if opening the wine young, to allow the aromatics and structure to open fully.
Producer
Inglenook is one of Napa Valley’s most iconic estates, founded in 1879 by Gustave Niebaum, a Finnish sea captain and wine enthusiast who set out to create a California estate that could stand alongside Europe’s finest. The property gained legendary status under John Daniel Jr., whose 1941 vintage became one of the great milestones in American wine history. Today, owned by Francis Ford Coppola, Inglenook remains a highly respected name in the region, known for its organic farming, historic pedigree, and consistently acclaimed wines.
