Il Marroneto’s 2018 Brunello di Montalcino balances lively fruit with an enticingly savoury, peppery edge. Bottled in a limited release of 21,470 bottles, it was praised by Monica Larner in March 2023 for its energy and immediate appeal.

Tasting Notes
The nose opens with cumin and white pepper, followed by fresh cherry, blueberry and blackcurrant. On the palate, those spice and fruit notes come together in a poised, energetic style, with no single element dominating. The supplied tasting note describes the wine as already enjoyable, so there is no need to wait to open it; further ageing potential is not specified.

Production
Made in Montalcino, Tuscany, from Sangiovese, the grape required for Brunello di Montalcino. The wine spent 39 months in oak barrels. Details of the vineyard conditions, harvesting methods and vinification are not available.

Food & Serving

Value for money

This is exactly the style of Brunello I love elegant, fresh, and never too heavy. Il Marroneto gives you beautiful red cherry, herbs, spice, and fine silky tannins, but what I enjoy most is the balance.
