Hubert Lignier’s Morey-Saint-Denis Trilogie 2015 is a focused, terroir-driven Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most respected family domaines. Made from the oldest vines across three parcels in Morey-Saint-Denis, it captures the depth, structure and finesse that have defined the estate for generations.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a vivid, dark-fruited profile with aromas of mulberry, raspberry and subtle briary notes, lifted by a gently spicy edge. It is well defined and poised on the nose, with the concentration of a serious village-level Burgundy.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with crunchy tannins and a touch of firmness in its youth, giving the wine plenty of energy and tension. The finish is compact and persistent, carrying a spicy, savory impression that should broaden and gain silkiness with bottle age. This is a wine with excellent aging potential.
Production
The Trilogie cuvée is sourced from the oldest vines in three parcels owned by Hubert Lignier in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the Côte de Nuits. The 2015 vintage was cropped at a very low yield of 27 hl/ha, contributing to its concentration, and the wine was matured in 20–25% new oak. The domaine works traditionally, with a strong emphasis on fruit quality and minimal intervention in the vineyard, including no use of pesticides or herbicides.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roast duck, quail, game birds, mushroom dishes and tender lamb. Serve at around 15–17°C, and consider decanting for about 30 minutes if drinking young to help the wine open up and soften its structure.
Producer
Hubert Lignier is a five-generation family estate with roots dating back to 1880, when Jacques Lignier first purchased vines in Morey-Saint-Denis. Today the domaine is run by Hubert Lignier and his son Laurent, who oversee around nine hectares and produce wines across Bourgogne village, premier cru and grand cru levels. The estate is widely admired for its depth, structure and capacity to age, while remaining firmly rooted in traditional Burgundy craftsmanship.
