Description
Hubert Lignier’s Gevrey-Chambertin La Perrière 1er Cru 2014 is a deeply expressive Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most respected family domaines. Sourced from a premier cru site in Gevrey-Chambertin, it combines the appellation’s signature power and structure with the domaine’s hallmark precision, depth, and elegance.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a vivid, polished ruby colour typical of fine Pinot Noir from Burgundy. The nose is intense and slightly mineral, with granitic notes, dark berries, loganberry, bilberry, and a subtle frame of well-integrated new oak that adds breadth without dominating the fruit.
The palate is silky yet serious, unfolding with dark red and black fruit, bright acidity, and a refined, compact structure. There is impressive delineation and length, with a smooth finish that carries both tension and seduction. This is a wine with excellent ageing potential and should continue to develop complexity over time.
Production
La Perrière is a premier cru vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin, where the soils and terroir bring both minerality and structure to the wine. Hubert Lignier is known for traditional Burgundian winemaking and a strong emphasis on healthy fruit, with no use of pesticides or herbicides in the vineyard. The 2014 vintage was vinified with care to preserve purity and finesse, while 25% new oak was used to support the wine’s texture and ageing potential.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted duck, pigeon, game birds, lamb, beef fillet, or mushroom-based dishes. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromatics and structure to fully open.
Producer
Hubert Lignier is a five-generation family domaine with roots dating back to 1880, when Jacques Lignier acquired vines in Morey-Saint-Denis. Today, the estate is based in the heart of Côte de Nuits and is managed by Hubert and Laurent Lignier, producing a range of wines from village level to grand cru. The domaine is highly regarded for wines of depth, concentration, and ageing potential, and it has long been a benchmark producer in Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin.
