Description
Hubert Lignier Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2015 Magnum is a superb expression of one of Burgundy’s most prized Grand Cru vineyards, combining Pinot Noir finesse with impressive depth and structure. Sourced from carefully tended parcels in Clos de la Roche, it reflects the estate’s long-standing commitment to traditional winemaking and the subtle power of Côte de Nuits terroir.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Grand Cru shows a vivid, refined profile with layers of ripe red berries, violet, orange blossom, and a cool limestone note that speaks clearly of its origin. The bouquet is precise and harmonious, with an aromatic purity that feels both lifted and deeply composed.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied yet intense, with crisp acidity, a linear shape, and exceptional balance. The finish is long and saline, leaving a sense of energy and precision. Built for the cellar, it should continue to develop beautifully over 25 years or more, gaining complexity, nuance, and savory depth with age.
Production
The wine comes from a small, carefully farmed Grand Cru holding in Clos de la Roche, where the limestone-rich soils and prime Côte de Nuits exposure contribute to the wine’s tension, minerality, and structure. The domaine farms without pesticides or herbicides, emphasizing healthy fruit and sustainable vineyard practices.
In the cellar, the 2015 vintage matured entirely in new oak and included 25% whole-bunch fruit, a choice that adds perfume, structure, and freshness while preserving the wine’s purity. The result is a traditional yet finely tuned Burgundy with concentration, clarity, and excellent aging potential.
Food & Serving
This wine is a natural match for premium dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, venison, beef fillet, or wild mushroom risotto. It also pairs beautifully with truffle-based preparations and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently for 1 to 2 hours if drinking young to help the wine open fully.
Producer
Hubert Lignier is a historic family domaine in Morey-Saint-Denis with roots dating back to 1880, when Jacques Lignier first acquired vineyard land in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Today, the estate is run by Hubert and Laurent Lignier, who manage around nine hectares across village, premier cru, and grand cru sites in Burgundy.
Known for wines of depth, structure, and concentration, the domaine has earned a strong reputation for classic, age-worthy Burgundy made with a strong respect for terroir. Its careful vineyard work, traditional approach, and consistently serious wines have made Hubert Lignier one of the respected names in the region.
