Description
Hubert Lignier Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes 2015 is a refined Burgundy Pinot Noir from one of the Côte de Nuits’ most respected family domaines. Sourced from old vines in Chambolle-Musigny, it combines fragrant precision, mineral depth, and the supple elegance that has made the appellation a benchmark for finely textured red Burgundy.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a moderately saturated medium-red color. The nose is restrained at first, opening with dark raspberry, ripe strawberry, and a delicate mineral edge, all lifted by subtle floral notes. On the palate, it is juicy, spicy, and precise, with excellent intensity, tender tannins, and a graceful balance between ripe red fruit and supporting minerality.
The finish is long and nuanced, with fresh raspberry, floral high notes, and a quiet persistence that reflects both the quality of the fruit and the polish of the winemaking. While already very expressive, this is a wine with excellent aging potential and should gain additional complexity with time in bottle.
Production
Produced by Hubert Lignier in Morey-Saint-Denis, this wine comes from old-vine parcels in Chambolle-Musigny, where the limestone-rich terroir lends finesse, fragrance, and a distinctly mineral backbone. The domaine practices traditional Burgundy viticulture and avoids pesticides and herbicides, with a strong focus on fruit quality and healthy, naturally balanced vines.
Harvesting is carried out with care to preserve purity and precision, and vinification follows a restrained, terroir-driven approach designed to emphasize depth, structure, and concentration rather than heavy extraction. The result is a wine that remains elegant and transparent to its origin while still offering impressive substance.
Food & Serving
This Chambolle-Musigny pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roast duck, guinea fowl, quail, veal, or mushroom-based preparations. It also works well with salmon, truffled poultry, and soft-ripened cheeses. Serve at around 15–17°C, and consider a short decant if opening young, though older bottles are best poured directly to preserve their perfume.
Producer
Hubert Lignier is a five-generation family domaine with roots dating back to 1880, when Jacques Lignier began acquiring vineyards in Morey-Saint-Denis. Today, the estate is run by Hubert Lignier and his son Laurent, who oversee around nine hectares across village, premier cru, and grand cru sites in Burgundy. The domaine is widely respected for its traditional, age-worthy wines from top Côte de Nuits appellations such as Morey-Saint-Denis, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Pommard, and Nuits-Saint-Georges.
