A 2015 Beaune Premier Cru from Les Guignons, made by the historic Hospices de Beaune and presented in magnum format. Founded in the 15th century, the institution is renowned for its annual charity wine auction and for wines that express the character of Burgundy’s celebrated vineyard sites.

Tasting Notes
Bright ruby in colour, with an inviting bouquet of cherry, raspberry and red plum, lifted by violet, gentle spice and a subtle earthy note. The palate is juicy and harmonious, with fresh acidity, soft tannins and a fine mineral edge that brings definition to the ripe red fruit. Now a mature vintage, it is ready to enjoy; its remaining development will depend on how the bottle has been stored. The magnum format can favour gradual evolution, though sound provenance is important when assessing its drinking window.

Production
Les Guignons is a Beaune Premier Cru site with limestone- and clay-rich soils, associated with Pinot Noir of freshness, structure and aromatic finesse. The Hospices de Beaune’s traditional approach includes hand harvesting, careful sorting and gentle fermentation in tanks, followed by ageing in French oak. New oak is used to support the wine’s fruit and site character rather than overwhelm them.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C with duck, roast chicken or veal, or alongside mushroom dishes and charcuterie. Brie, Comté and Tomme are natural cheese pairings. A short time in a decanter can help open the wine; for a mature bottle, taste first and decant gently only if needed.
