Description

Hospices de Beaune is one of Burgundy’s most historic and revered wine institutions, founded in the 15th century and celebrated for its legendary annual charity auction in Beaune. This 2015 Beaune 1er Cru Les Guignons showcases the classic finesse of Pinot Noir from a prized Côte de Beaune site, combining elegance, freshness and depth in a style that is immediately appealing yet unmistakably serious.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby hue with a refined, open bouquet of cherry, raspberry, red plum, violet and a subtle touch of spice. The palate is harmonious and juicy, with supple tannins, fresh acidity and a graceful balance of ripe fruit and lightly earthy mineral notes. Les Guignons typically offers a more approachable and fruit-driven expression than many wines from farther north in Burgundy, while still retaining the structure and complexity expected from a Premier Cru. With time in bottle, it should develop additional layers of savory nuance, forest floor and gentle tertiary character over the coming years.

Production
Les Guignons is a classic Beaune 1er Cru vineyard, where limestone and clay soils help Pinot Noir achieve both structure and aromatic delicacy. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted, then fermented using traditional Burgundy methods in tank to preserve purity and terroir expression, before aging in French oak barrels with a measured use of new wood to support rather than overpower the fruit.

Food & Serving
This wine is a natural match for duck, chicken, veal, mushroom dishes and charcuterie, as well as soft to semi-aged cheeses such as Brie, Comté or Tomme. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is optional but can be helpful if the wine is still youthful and you want to open up its aromas.

Producer
Domaine des Hospices de Beaune is one of the most iconic names in Burgundy, with a history stretching back to the 1400s and a deep connection to the region’s wine heritage. Its holdings span some of the finest climats in Côte de Beaune, and its wines are vinified with great respect for tradition and terroir before often being aged and refined by selected négociants, adding to their long and distinguished reputation.
