Holger Koch’s Grauburgunder Herrenstück comes from a distinctive Baden site where loess clay overlays volcanic rock, and it is matured in large wooden casks. The available tasting note is for the 2019 vintage, so the character of the 2024 bottling may differ.

Tasting Notes
The 2019 note describes a reserved aroma that opens with air to reveal generous yet lively yellow apple, a touch of banana peel and hints of exotic fruit; the variety’s familiar nutty notes are more subtle. On the palate, it is concentrated and gently creamy without feeling heavy, with a pleasantly bitter blood-orange or grapefruit edge and a mineral finish.

Production
The Herrenstück parcel is characterised by a substantial layer of loess clay over volcanic rock. The producer’s Herrenstück white wines are aged entirely in large wooden casks. Harvesting and vinification details specific to the 2024 vintage were not provided.
