Description

A single-vineyard Riesling from the Blaufüsser Lay parcel in the steep Uhlen vineyard on the Terrassenmosel. “Lay” is an old word for slate, while “Blaufüsser” is thought to refer to the parcel’s blue-grey slate soils; vintage-specific tasting details for 2024 are not yet available.

Production
The Blaufüsser Lay is characterised by Devonian slate with a relatively high clay content. The 2017 vintage notes describe vines up to 60 years old, many ungrafted, hand-harvested on slopes reaching 170% inclination. That wine was spontaneously fermented and matured in a 2,400-litre oak cask without added enzymes or fining agents; these details have not been confirmed for the 2024 vintage.

Food & Serving
Riesling’s versatility makes it a natural match for freshwater fish, shellfish, poultry and dishes with a little spice. Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C; a brief rest in the glass can help the wine open, while decanting is generally unnecessary unless you wish to give it extra air.
